The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly - 4.21.2024

Jake, again, with the broken promise of getting back on a regular blogging schedule? What’s the deal with that?

Enough with the Seinfeld cold opens. Seriously though? The last month has been insanely busy personally. Working full time, a bachelor party, a concert, and a wedding has all been the last month. It was awesome. I spent some units, but was it worth it? Absolutely. It was a great reminder that life isn’t all about sports betting. Even if I have a good report card from the last few weeks.

The Good

The Bets. NHL and MLB have been kind to me over the last couple of weeks, and I pray this doesn’t make it a jinx. I was down 11 units to start baseball during the time off writing, and now we’re up 10. The NHL has been holding steady as well. We hit the Red Wings on the season total for 4 units, and we’re off to a nice start in the playoffs as well. All is well at this point in time.

The Bad

Two things this go around… the first? An orange bouncy object that goes through a 10-foot-tall net. God damn, I love college basketball, and I physically crave it. It’s ugly but beautiful in its own disgusting way. But in the last calendar year? I have struggled enormously to bet it. It’s a me problem. It’s not the sport, it’s not the players, it’s me. Handicapping issue. Once I figured that out, I didn’t get better, but I certainly allowed myself to struggle much less. That’s good.

I’ve lived in Wisconsin my entire life. Despite the progressive reputation the state has in election cycles outside of Madison, Milwaukee, and the UW college towns, this is a red state. Red voters equals, “although we have less children than DUIs, sports betting is BAD.”

Moral of that digression? I used legal sportsbooks during my stay in Nashville and the layover time in Illinois. They kick serious ass. I wish Wisconsin would get with the times… I really want to stack up crowns on DraftKings.

The Ugly

My sleep schedule? I’d normally say that my account is ugly, but I always say that. But now, after burning the candle at both ends for the better part of the month, the NCAA tournament, and now the best professional postseason in sports, the quest for Lord Stanley starting, I’m going to be a sleepy man come June. It’s all awesome, though.

What would we do without sports?
