College Baseball Top 25 - 5/15

We‘re in the final stretch of the 2023 regular season, some teams falling off, some making a last ditch effort to secure a spot in a regional. One of the best times of the year, we essentially start all over in the last few weeks, but let’s dive in.

#1 - Wake Forest

Wake Forest, despite dropping game 3 to the Seminoles, takes the series and secures their spot at the helm of the top 25.

#2- Arkansas

A series win over the Gamecocks goes a long way for the Razorbacks this week leapfrogging the Tigers of LSU.

#3 - LSU

In my mind, this is still debatably a #1 team, some banged up bullpen pitching led to the series L against a scrappy Mississippi St team who’s fighting for their season. Not great for the Tigers but the resume is still fantastic.

#4 - Florida

A MASSIVE sweep over Vanderbilt for the Gators squashing any doubt of the ability to compete with good pitching.

#5 - Stanford

Only dropping a spot because a sweep over Vanderbilt does a lot more than a series win over Arizona where they dropped game 3 21-20. Yes, you read that right, Stanford lost an extra innings game to Arizona 21-20. The missed extra point for the Cardinal leads to drop in spot but a series win holds true.

#6 - West Virginia

A great test for the Mountaineers as they take the series against Texas Tech. I’ve loved what I’ve seen from WVU and can’t wait to see them in a regional.

#7 - Coastal Carolina

Sounds like a broken record here, but another conference series win for the Chants, they keep plugging away. As long as teams above them keep losing, they hold strong in this 10-7 range I think it’s a good spot for them.

#8 - Clemson

Put some respect on the Tigers, taking a series against the Hokies this weekend in convincing fashion propels them into the top 10.

#9 - Vanderbilt

A sweep from Florida puts the Commodores on the ropes as they drop 2 straight SEC series. Takes on toll on their rank, but I still see this team as a major threat in the postseason.

#10 - UCONN

A series win against an OK Butler team, nothing to write home about but we can’t discount a team that simply isn’t losing.

#11 - Miami

A series win against Pitt where Pitt in classic form steals one. A series against the Duke Blue Devils may spell trouble for the Hurricanes but they stay put here.

#12 - Oregon St

A series win over UCLA this weekend, would’ve liked to see a sweep out of the Beavers but taking game 3 21-5 will do.

#13 - Campbell

A convincing win over a solid UNCW team and a series win over Gardner-Webb bumps Camels up, Roll damn Humps.

#14 - South Carolina

Another series L against the #2 team in the country but they lost to UNF in a midweek and have now lost 3 straight series. Still a very capable and talented bunch and have been injured but are still a top 15 team.

#15 - DBU

A huge sweep over UTSA proves the legitimacy of this Patriots squad. Very deserving of this spot and I am very excited to watch this team in a regional.

#16 - ECU

7 Straight wins for the Pirates, and facing off against Campbell in a midweek which should make for some fantastic baseball.

#17 - Tennessee

A very solid series win against Kentucky for the Vols, finding their stride at the perfect time, they definitely have the ability to shake up the SEC tourney.

#18 - Oklahoma St

The Cowboys took care of K-State this weekend, but not enough to bump up. Still competing in Big 12 as they prepare for Bedlam this weekend.

#19 - Duke

A rough week for the Blue Devils as a series loss to Georgia Tech hurts them in a major way. They’re still in great position to finish in the top 25 but this was not a good week for our boys from Durham.

#20 - Maryland

The leader of the Big 10 keeps plugging away. I want to reiterate, I think this team is capable of something great, but all of their Q1 opponents came very early this season so we won’t know until we get into postseason play.

#21 - Virginia

A sweep over Louisville bodes well for the Cavs as they seem to be putting it all together again. At 41-11, this team is definitely on everyone’s radar for regionals.

#22 - Southern Miss

Now 13 straight wins for the Golden Eagles, I love watching this team and think they have a great shot at winning the Sun Belt.

#23 - Boston College

Only 2 games this week, a pair of wins over Villanova, nothing special but enough to keep the Eagles put.

#24 - Kentucky

Despite losing the series to Tennessee, this team has been very solid down the stretch tallying up some great resume wins down the stretch.

#25 - Washington

I’ve been a fan of this team all season, they’ve hung around with great teams and at 32-14 after notching a sweep over Oregon, they have the capability to make some noise in the Pac 12 tourney.
